Put the date of Saturday 12th of July in your diary as that is the day you can get involved in Malvern Carnival and Hat Festival 2014. It will be based on the successful Hat Festival that is run in Bridport each year where locals and visitors decorate a hat and parade through the town showing off their creations. There will be competitions, music, children’s activities and prizes for the most creative hats on show.
The Carnival will commence with a vehicle parade where local groups, businesses and organisations are invited to decorate some type of vehicle and wear hats on a theme they choose. This will be followed by a hat wearing walking parade where again all schools, youth groups, bands, societies or organisations based in the Malvern Hills area are invited to have fun, dress up and take part. The route will commence outside the Abbey Gateway in Great Malvern and then walk down the hill via Church Street and Avenue Road to Barnards Green. Road closures will be in place and marshals will be along the route to make sure everyone is safe.
Carnival Committee Chairman Jim Richardson stated he wants to put an open invitation out to everyone who is part of a group, business or society to take part and get involved on this day which can showcase the wonderful variety of business and social activities that take place within the Malvern Hills and be part of an exciting annual community event.
The Malvern Carnival and Hat Festival have chosen to raise funds on the day for ‘Action for Children’ Sunshine Centre in Malvern which supports Malvern’s most disadvantaged children and families. “It is a great cause where the people of Malvern are supporting some of the most vulnerable families within their own community” said Jim.
